RESET Study

Relaxation and Exhalation Sessions for Early Trauma

Goal of the RESET Study

The role of the body has so far received little attention in psychotherapy. We believe that body-based methods hold great therapeutic potential and are conducting a scientific study to investigate the effects of two interventions: breathwork and progressive muscle relaxation (PMR).

Information about the RESET Study

How does the study work?

Participation takes place over a period of six weeks. You will take part in a total of four group sessions aimed at improving your well-being, led by trained professionals.

Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) is a stress-reduction technique in which different muscle groups in the body are systematically tensed and then relaxed.

Breathwork is a breathing technique that uses conscious, intensive breathing to achieve altered states of consciousness and deep relaxation.

Which measurements are taken?

The measurements include questionnaires that can be completed online. Participants will attend two laboratory visits involving electroencephalography (EEG) recordings and blood samples. Stress hormones will also be assessed once through saliva samples.

Throughout the six-week study period, a fitness wristband will continuously track stress and recovery markers, providing scientifically grounded insights into physiological responses.

Where does the study take place?

The RESET study takes place at the Humboldt University in Berlin Adlershof.

Institut für Psychologie der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Rudower Ch 18, 12489 Berlin

Who can take part?

You can participate if you are over 18 years old and have no previous experience with Breathwork and the relaxation method PMR. Further participation requirements can be found in our study information on request.
